Album Of The Week | Tinashe – Nightride

“Nightride” is the latest mixtape released by R&B singer Tinashe following her debut freshman release of “Aquarius”. It features an array of songs that one would not expect from Tinashe — especially if all you know her for is her hit single “2 On”. “Nightride” seems to be a prelude of Tinashe’s forthcoming sophomore album “Joyride” that should be releasing sometime in 2017. Although not an album, “Nightride” is an amazing body of work showcasing Tinashe’s versatility and vocal range. The mixtape does indeed feel like a night ride, as most of the songs are dark, hazy, and seductive. The mixtape opener, “Lucid Dreaming” especially, sets the tone for the rest of the piece with its foggy production and drowsy vocals. Another standout track on the album is “Company” produced by The Dream. Surprisingly enough, this song did not do well on the charts when it was first released, but take my word for it — it is a banger! From the beat to the lyrics to Tinashe’s attitude, this song brings out something in the listener that a catchy song hasn’t done in a while. Needless to say, “Nightride” is a brilliant piece of work and makes me excited for what’s to come next for Tinashe. She is really shaping into being a strong songstress and even better songwriter.
