Guidance for Employees and Students Exposed to Someone with COVID-19

Dear Members of the Campus Community:

As announced earlier today, the College has learned that two employees have tested positive for COVID-19. We believe those employees spent time in the Old Main Building and the academic portion of College/Shango Hall during the times when they may have been contagious. We have closed those buildings and scheduled them for deep cleaning.

If you are in one of the buildings when receiving this message, please collect what you will need to work remotely and exit the building as soon as possible. This is a precautionary measure and will allow us to thoroughly clean the facility.

If you are not in the buildings in question when receiving this message, please do not return to them before the closure is lifted. The academic portions of College/Shango Hall will remain closed through Tuesday, March 24, and Old Main will remain closed through Thursday, March 26.

College/Shango Hall residents may move out beginning Sunday, March 22, at 8 a.m. No move outs are possible prior to that time, due to deep cleaning in residential areas scheduled for Saturday, March 21. Please note that your risk of exposure is linked to type of contact. Close contact is defined as “being within 6 feet of a person displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.” Proximate contact is defined as “being in the same enclosed environment such as a classroom, office, or gatherings but greater than 6 feet from a person displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.” Mandatory quarantine is required for a person who has had close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Precautionary quarantine is required for those who have had proximate contact.

For more information please see this New York State Department of Health Guidance on the Contacts of a Close or Proximate Contact of a Confirmed or Suspected Case of COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Scott Schulte, Director of Emergency Management
